Originally from northern India, Tanya studied Geology and Earth Sciences before completing a Master's degree in Delhi. Looking for a more interdisciplinary and technical programme, she discovered Erasmus Mundus.
“When I learned about Erasmus Mundus, it felt like the perfect opportunity.”
In 2020, she moved to Salzburg, where she specialised in Geoinformatics before continuing her studies in France with a focus on Geodata Science.
Learning Across Different Systems
Studying in two countries gave Tanya valuable insights into different academic cultures. While she appreciated the structure of the French education system, she particularly enjoyed the flexibility offered by the University of Salzburg.
“In Salzburg, professors encouraged us to explore our own research interests and develop our ideas independently.”
She also experienced the challenges and rewards of adapting to new cultures and environments, which helped her grow both academically and personally.
Friendships Beyond Borders
One of the most memorable aspects of the programme was the international community she became part of. Tanya's cohort consisted of only 15 students, creating close friendships that continue to this day.
“I could never have imagined leaving India and building friendships with people from all over the world.”
She also highlights the strong support she received from professors, many of whom remain in contact with former students years after graduation.
Personal Growth and Career Success
Living and studying abroad broadened Tanya's perspective and strengthened important skills such as adaptability, communication, and intercultural understanding.
“Erasmus Mundus helped me become more confident and adaptable. Those skills are incredibly valuable in my professional life today.”
After graduation, Tanya joined Ubicube, where she now works as Head of Geodata. According to her, the Erasmus Mundus programme prepares students exceptionally well for the labour market.
Giving Back as an Erasmus+ Ambassador
Today, Tanya is also an Erasmus+ Higher Education Ambassador. She hopes to support prospective students, connect Erasmus Mundus alumni, and help build a stronger international community.
For students considering an application, her advice is simple:
“Be as honest as possible in your application and during the interview. Authenticity matters.”
And above all:
“Erasmus Mundus is truly a life-changing experience – enjoy it to the fullest”
