Survey on trust in citizen science projects

Researchers at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) are currently conducting an online survey on trust in citizen science and are calling for participation.
1 min read · 21. August 2025

The aim of the study is to investigate which characteristics and practices of citizen science projects particularly influence public trust.

The survey presents brief descriptions of hypothetical citizen science projects – for example, who organises them, how participants are involved, and how data is handled. You then decide which project you find most trustworthy and give a brief assessment. Participation is anonymous and voluntary and takes about 20 minutes.

To the survey: Participate now

Questions about the study can be answered by the project manager Jung-Hee Hyun (IIASA): hyun@iiasa.ac.at.
