Participation in the conference Tropentag 2016, Vienna

This year the Tropentag, a development-oriented and interdisciplinary conference, addressing issues such as resource management, environment, agriculture and poverty alleviation worldwide, was held in Vienna on 18-21 September 2016. Sara Kaweesa played a very active role in this conference.

Together with Michael Hauser she chaired and moderated panel discussions of the keynote speakers on the topic “Solidarity in a competing world — fair use of resources”. Sara also co-moderated with Rosana Kral a small group in one of the workshops that was on strengthening resilience. In addition she presented a poster with two colleagues entitled: “Institutional Learning in Conservation Agriculture Innovation: Evidence from Iran, Uganda and Burkina Faso”.Lastly but not least, she gave a presentation on “Identifying the Barriers of Organic Crop Production in Hamedan, Iran” on behalf of another student that was unable to be in Vienna at that time.

Sara Kaweesa is a PhD student at the Centre for Development Research / University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) in Austria. Her research is on effective strategies for scaling out conservation agriculture and it will be carried out in Karamoja, Northern Uganda. Before her studies she convened and worked for a conservation organisation.
