Final Project Report: Organic Agriculture in Armenia - Participatory Higher Education and Knowledge

From classroom to field, the SOAA partnership is reshaping organic agriculture in Armenia. A streamlined master’s programme, a research farm, hands-on short courses, and empowered faculty are turning theory into practice, while growing public interest and enrollment. With strengthened international partnerships and vibrant outreach, organic agriculture is emerging not just as a subject of study, but as a sustainable pathway for Armenia’s agriculture.

Final Report: Strengthening Agroecology Education, Research, and Practice in Rwenzori Region, Uganda

The AER-Phase II project set out to transform agroecology education and practice in Western Uganda by bridging academia, research, and farming communities. Through a participatory, multi-stakeholder approach, the project strengthened the MSc Agroecology programme at Mountains of the Moon University, enhanced action-oriented research, and empowered farmers as co-creators of knowledge.

Yekunoamlak Alemu: Green Skills for TVET Trainers in Ethiopian Polytechnics

Yekunoamlak Alemu is an OeAD alumnus, a senior staff member at Addis Ababa University, and a visiting scholar at the University of Klagenfurt. He was successful in the latest APPEAR Call and, since March 2025, has been implementing the project "Capacity Development of Trainers on Greening TVET in the Polytechnic Colleges of Ethiopia".

Jetzt einreichen: Young‑Science‑Gütesiegel für Forschungspartnerschulen!

Bereits 80 Schulen erfüllten in den ersten sieben Ausschreibungen die Bewertungskriterien und wurden dafür mit dem Young-Science-Gütesiegel für Forschungspartnerschulen ausgezeichnet. Nun schreiben das BMFWF und der OeAD das Siegel erneut aus und laden ALLE Schulen in Österreich ein, noch bis 23. Februar ihre Forschungskooperationen und -aktivitäten vorzuweisen und einzureichen. Voraussichtlich im Juni werden die von einer Jury ausgewählten Forschungspartnerschulen 2026 im Zuge einer festlichen Verleihung mit einer Urkunde und einer Plakette für die Schulwand ausgezeichnet. Das Siegel wird für die Dauer von zwei Jahren verliehen.

Event Summary: 15th S-DHG Forum 2025

Around 60 participants from funding agencies and organisations across Europe and around the world came together for the 15th S-DHG Forum 2025 – the Forum of the Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Higher Education Group (S-DHG), which took place in November 2025 at OeAD in Vienna. The meeting focused on a central challenge: how to communicate the value of higher education cooperation with the Global South during a time of increasing global uncertainty, shrinking budgets, and shifting political priorities.

Workshop Recap: Project Work in Conflict-Affected Countries

On 22 November 2025, OeAD hosted the workshop ‘Project Work in Conflict-Affected Contexts’ as part of the 9th Austrian Development Conference in Innsbruck, Austria. Caroline Paparu and Hafte Tesfay shared insights from their project work in Uganda and Ethiopia that were followed by interactive discussions. Overall, the workshop underscored that successful cooperation in conflict-affected contexts requires flexibility, ethical sensitivity, transparent communication, and long-term, trust-based partnerships rooted in local realities.

Kabale University and the Institute for Hydrology and Water Management at BOKU University have deepened their collaboration through a series of activities under the KI–WATER Project – Building Regional Capacities in Integrated Water Resources Management in the Kigezi Highlands. Armenian-Austrian University Cooperation Meeting

On 7 July 2025, the Armenian-Austrian University Cooperation Meeting took place at Yerevan State University.
