Bridging Borders: Ainura Nazarkulova's Journey in Education and Research

In 2007, after completing her PhD at University of Salzburg, Ainura Nazarkulova, had returned home and started to work at the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transport and Architecture as senior lecturer. However, international cooperation projects brought her back to the University of Salzburg where she is now involved in student mobility programmes and coordinates the APPEAR DEvision project with partners from Armenia and the Kyrgyz Republic.

Clean and prosperous Uganda | CPUg | Report on the 1st project year

CPUg team members have been hard at work trying to make Uganda “cleaner and more prosperous”, as its project title explicitly states. The project is aimed at improving fecal sludge and solid waste management capabilities across the country, with a particular focus on the Imvepi refugee settlement in the northwest part of the country; urban and suburban settings within Wakiso District; and 2-3 selected CDM composting plants throughout the country. The consortium has been working autonomously on its diverse work packages, while collaboration and communication have been pivotal to galvanize efforts in areas where the respective work packages intersect.

She defended her PhD in Agriculture from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna in April 2023. The research was embedded in the APPEAR project "Strengthening of Higher Education, Research and Community Outreach in Agro-Ecology in the Rwenzori Region in Western Uganda".
