Magdalena Eriksröd-Burger and Petra Siegele address these questions in their recently published article “Using public science to strengthen informed trust in science and democracy - good practice measures from cooperation between science and schools”.
The article is part of the current publication "Partizipativ? Democratic? Gesellschaft im Wandel!" by the University College of Teacher Education Styria and uses concrete examples from the citizen science funding program Sparkling Science, the Citizen Science Award and the OeAD's Science Ambassadors initiative to show how science can be brought to life in a school context.
The central basis for this is the concept of Science Capital, which highlights the importance of early, active and participatory access to science. The article emphasizes that trust in science is not a sure-fire success - it must be built up through transparent information, honest communication and dialogue at eye level.
The entire publication is available online on the PH Steiermark website.
