OeAD Attends the bifep Conference: Democracy. Science. Adult Education.

On July 6 and 7, 2026, the OeAD participated in a conference organized by the Federal Institute for Adult Education (bifep) in St. Wolfgang at the invitation of the BMFWF. Petra Siegele, Head of the Public Science Division, led a presentation and workshop on the topic “Experiencing Science: New Approaches for Adults.”

The focus was on the question of how to make science accessible to adults outside of traditional higher education settings and how to strengthen their participation in society. Siegele presented OeAD initiatives, including the Science Ambassadors program, the Citizen Science Award, and Sparkling Science 2.0. These initiatives demonstrate how participatory formats, in collaboration with adult education institutions, civil society organizations, and communities, can reach even educationally underserved or previously underrepresented target groups.

The conference explored the interplay between knowledge, dialogue, and participation and brought together experts from the fields of adult education, civic education, and academia.
