The OeAD’s exhibition stand focused on citizen science and Erasmus+. Public libraries are increasingly proving to be strategically important venues for science communication: as accessible, widespread institutions, they make it possible to engage directly with broad sections of the population and involve them in scientific processes. Citizen science projects facilitated through libraries create a structural link between research institutions and civic engagement.

Overall, the conference highlighted the transformation of public libraries into infrastructure facilities for knowledge transfer. The OeAD’s visit exemplifies the growing interest among research funding bodies in cooperating with the library sector to embed science in society and establish participatory research formats sustainably across the board.
