The conference focused on topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in the recognition process, strategies against educational fraud (e.g. through ‘diploma mills’) and the role of transnational education in the context of the ongoing internationalisation of the European higher education area.
The event was opened by Albania's minister of education, Ogerta Manastirliu, who emphasised the importance of international cooperation in higher education.
One of the main topics of the conference was the use of AI in the recognition process, which was addressed e.g. in the keynote speech by Prof. Barbara Wasson (University of Bergen), who explored ethical issues, data quality and digital skills. Workshops also dealt with practical topics such as automated recognition, prior learning and support for refugee students.
Special attention was also paid to collaboration within the ENIC-NARIC network itself: professional exchange between member centres not only enables continuous further development of common standards but also strengthening of trust and comparability in the international education area. The conference provided a valuable platform for debating best practices, identifying common challenges and setting new impulses for future recognition practice.
The ENIC NARIC Annual Conference 2025 showed that recognition of qualifications is a central element in mobility, transparency and trust in the European higher education area – and it is gaining more and more importance as a result of digitisation and internationalisation.
The next annual conference will take place in Greece in 2026 – the ENIC NARIC AUSTRIA | Credential Evaluation team is looking forward to taking part and continuing the important discussions.
