Within an Advanced Academic Partnerhip, SUSFISH+, a consortium of ecologists and social scientists from Burkina Faso and Austria continued their fruitful cooperation from previous Academic Partnership, SUSFISH, focusing on the challenges of fisheries in Burkina Faso. Driven by a strong commitment to action the consortium tackled challenges in the fisheries sector, yielding results from natural, political and social sciences, related to Burkinabe fisheries and sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems. Research encompassed systemic assessment of interactions and linkages affecting Burkinabe fisheries, including threats to aquatic ecosystems, climatic change, fish- and benthic macroinvertebrates ecology and socio-economic challenges.
The SUSFISHBook gives insight and stimulation for development and research in a sphere thus enhancing the understanding of socio-economic development of African inlands waters. The SUSFISHBook will serve as a basis for further development of science and policies for a better future in fisheries. This critical summary suggests new pathways for development of a long-term vision for fish resources and aquatic ecosystem, following new political trends of sustainable development.
