As part of this research competition, school classes, youth groups, families, and individuals of all ages and from all segments of the population can participate in selected projects and win prizes during the research period from April 1 to July 31, 2027. The most dedicated citizen scientists will be honored at a ceremony in the fall of 2027 as part of the 6th Young Science Congress.
Participating in the competition offers many benefits for the projects: Through the engagement of citizen scientists, they gain a wealth of new data and research contributions and receive fresh impetus for their scientific work. The OeAD’s extensive promotional efforts and diverse partnerships (e.g., libraries throughout Austria, the Natural History Museum Vienna, the Vienna Research Festival, the Long Night of Research, etc.) increase the project’s visibility, enabling it to reach a broader audience.
Registration is done via an online form. The call for applications will be open from September 28 to November 20 (NO EXTENSION!).
The terms of participation and evaluation criteria will be published HERE over the course of the summer. The selected projects will be notified shortly before Christmas 2026.
What motivates researchers to involve citizen scientists in the research process, how they benefit from it, and what needs to be considered can be found in EXPERIENCE REPORTS from researchers who have already participated in the Citizen Science Award
