Garten Tulln is not only an adventure world but also an educational institution that combines gardening with teaching. The children's afternoon fits into this concept, with the Citizen Science Award project “On the Trail of Butterflies” being presented. In this project, citizen scientists work together with researchers to collect data on the distribution of native butterflies throughout Austria. The aim is to record the current status of butterfly populations, highlight changes in these populations, and create a scientific basis for the protection of these species. In addition to school classes and youth groups, families and individuals from all over Austria are invited to participate.
For those responsible for the project, the presentation offers an opportunity to showcase their research to a broad audience, receive direct feedback from participants, and expand the network for future citizen science activities. Such events increase the visibility of research projects, promote the recruitment of participants, and strengthen the social relevance of one's own scientific work.
