The selected projects cover a broad spectrum of natural and social science issues. Thematic priorities range from biodiversity and climate research to forest and mushroom monitoring and cultural studies investigations of digital memory practices. The aim is to obtain high-quality data through participatory research while promoting scientific interest and research skills among the general public.
The OeAD Center for Citizen Science launched the Citizen Science Award 2026 with a workshop on December 10, 2025. The participating research teams used the event for professional exchange, networking, and preparation for the upcoming co-research phase.
In spring 2026, further formats will be offered in which project teams can present their research projects to a wider audience. These presentation opportunities also serve to specifically address and recruit citizen scientists for active participation in the projects.
From April 1 to July 31, 2026, school classes, youth groups, families, and individuals will have the opportunity to actively participate in scientific research projects. The winners will be honored at an award ceremony during the 5th Young Science Congress on November 17, 2026, at TU Wien.
