The RIECS-Concept project (Towards A Pan-European Research Infrastructure For Excellent Citizen Science) aims to design a new research infrastructure for citizen science by involving numerous stakeholders, including citizen scientists, teachers and researchers. Since 1 January 2025, 13 organisations from eight European countries have been working on the implementation of this plan. At a consortium meeting on 24 and 25 September, hosted by the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, strategic issues and participation mechanisms were discussed and adjusted.
The first participation workshops will take place in the coming weeks, some of them in Austria.
On 3 October, experienced citizen scientists from various initiatives will work with the OeAD to develop wishes and requirements for the future infrastructure.
A week later, researchers and other interested parties are invited to participate in the RIECS theme café, organised by the ZSI – Centre for Social Innovations and the OeAD, as part of the OIS zam: forum.
On 23 October, school pupils who have gained experience in collaborative research through the Citizen Science Award will have their say at the Young Science Congress 2025.
