As part of the “Tree-Quest” project, students across Austria use an app to measure the carbon storage capacity of trees and collect data for biomass mapping. The trees measured are displayed on an overview map, illustrating the progress made so far. The map also shows how actively citizen scientists in different regions are collecting data, thereby contributing to the project’s overall success.
The project team guides and supports the participating school classes in their data collection. In several in-person workshops (e.g., as part of the ÖCSK in Leoben or at “Discovering Diversity at the NHM Vienna) and in online sessions with teachers from the participating school classes, the correct use and functions of the Tree-Quest app, as well as the research background of the project, were explained. These accompanying activities help ensure the highest possible quality of the collected data.
Interested school classes can still participate in the research until the end of July. Click HERE for more information.
