For the twelfth time, the OeAD Centre for Citizen Science, on behalf of the BMFWF, is inviting Austrian research institutions to submit their ongoing citizen science projects for the Citizen Science Award. As part of this research competition, school classes, youth groups, families and individuals of all ages and demographic groups can participate in selected projects and win prizes during the research period from 1 April to 31 July 2026. The most committed citizen scientists will be honoured at a ceremony in autumn 2026 as part of the 5th Young Science Congress.
Registration is possible via an online form. The submission deadline is Wednesday, 5 November 2025.
Representatives from the BMFWF and the OeAD Centre for Citizen Science will then select the projects to participate in the Citizen Science Award 2026. The aim is to offer as wide a range of scientific projects as possible from various disciplines, enabling different forms of engagement throughout Austria. Projects that enable primary school classes to participate in research are particularly welcome to apply.
The selected projects will be announced at the beginning of December 2025.
