The World Bank 2026 Land and Property Research Conference was held from 29 April to 1 May 2026 at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC. The conference brought together researchers and practitioners from around the world. Topics included land governance, land markets, urban development, equity and rights, as well as opportunities offered by new technologies, including the digitalisation of land registration and administrative procedures, data management, and the integration of satellite imagery. One of the keynote addresses was delivered by Daron Acemoglu, the 2024 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, who spoke on land, labour and economic development.
Four partners from the current APPEAR project Edu4GEO2 attended the conference and delivered two presentations. The first highlighted advances in Ethiopian geomatics education achieved through the academic partnership project EduLAND2 and the advanced academic partnership project Edu4GEO2. Both projects aim to foster sustainable development and address the country’s critical shortage of qualified land administration professionals.
The second presentation examined the impact of land registration and certification on the land rights of peri-urban women in Ethiopia’s Amhara National Regional State.
