Project Coordinator: Christoph Pfeifer
Coordinating Institution: University of Natural Resources and
Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna
Partner institution: Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) (Hala J. El‐Khozondar)
Partner Country: Palestine
Project Duration: 1 July 2023 – 30 June 2026 (36 months)
Project Overview
In the field of renewable energy, the successfully completed APPEAR project by IUG and BOKU, "Developing maker-movement-inspired training courses in renewable energy sources for Gaza Strip - Palestine | MakingFutureEnergy4Palestine," enhanced the capacity of both students and academic staff at IUG and BOKU through staff training at IUG (skills and knowledge), new courses in renewable energy, and the establishment of two laboratories at IUG.
Based on the successes of earlier projects, the advanced project "Capacity Building towards Sustainable Energy Use and Green Job Creation in the Gaza Strip - Palestine | CBSE" seeks to create a new module for the electrical engineering department at IUG's present master's program and establish a professional diploma. The project is guided by the following outcomes:
- the introduction of a professional diploma (for one year) for B.Sc. graduates in subjects like green employment creation and sustainable energy.
- improving the electrical engineering MSc module that is currently provided as a part of the MSc program in electrical engineering at IUG.
- Enhancing research and teaching capacities on renewable energy subjects at IUG to be transferred to students, companies, and communities.
- Moving on with a variety of initiatives to provide female students and recent graduates the technical skills they need for green employment to compete on the local market.
- Development of a Fab-Lab laboratory and advanced renewable energy laboratory to support advanced research and teaching.
- Contributing to green job awareness and assessing green job market needs
- Further enhancing the research network between the partner institutions as well as related institutions.
