Former scholar appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Technical University of Kenya

We are proud to announce that our former scholar Prof. Benedict Mwavu Mutua has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Technical University of Kenya on 25 August 2023.

Benedict Mutua is a Professor of Water Resources, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering. Prior to his appointment, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation) at Kibabii University. Prof. Mutua holds a PhD in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) Austria. His studies were financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation.

He earned his MEng. Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a Fluid Dynamics and Hydraulics Engineering concentration from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, with emphasis on Water Resources and Systems Management, a diploma and BSC in Agricultural Engineering from Egerton University.

Prof. Mutua has completed three postdoctoral research projects, including two from BOKU University in Austria that focused on modeling catchment hydrology and assessing the effects of climate change and land use/cover on river basins. His third study was completed at the University of Stuttgart in Germany where he focused on applied hydraulics engineering.

Prof. Mutua started his teaching and research career in 1990 at Egerton University and subsequently served as a researcher, Lecturer and Professor. He brings a wealth of knowledge in Management, Research and Scholarship. He has supervised many postgraduate students at Master’s, PhD and Postdoctoral levels. Prof Mutua has published several scientific articles in reputable Journals. He has also published a number of books and book chapters.
