Events4scholars: Online Talk Watch out: Predatory Publishing
"Publish or perish" has become a defining mantra in contemporary academia, accompanied by a growing pressure to publish Open Access.
Academic careers increasingly depend on publication records, and without articles in renowned international peer-reviewed journals, pursuing a successful university career has become ever more challenging.
At the same time, so-called predatory publishers are increasingly active, aggressively promoting journals and publishing services while failing to provide essential editorial standards and scholarly oversight.
Together with Dr. Leonhard Suchenwirth from Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), the phenomenon of predatory journals and strategies for avoiding the pitfalls of academic publishing will be discussed.
The talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session, open discussion, and an opportunity for informal exchange.
Speaker: Dr. Leonhard Suchenwirth is a liaison librarian at the Library of TU Wien. He holds a diploma in Geography from University of Vienna and a PhD from Technische Universität Berlin. Previously he worked as a GIS Specialist for GIZ, UNODC and others.
