An admission letter by a Vienna university (Universität Wien, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Technische Universität Wien, Medizinische Universität Wien, Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Veterinärmedizinische Universität Wien) is needed to join the Preparation Programme. Without admission letter enrolment is not possible. Students need to enrol personally.
Students have to pass the supplementary examinations in German and other subjects at the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities before they can be enrolled in a regular degree programme at the university. The preparatory courses will take place at the VWU itself (only for students who qualify for a reduced fee) and at three cooperation partners. While attending the courses students are enrolled as non-degree programme students (“außerordentliche Studierende”) at the university.
The German courses consist of 320 lessons (22 to 24 lessons per week), the course fee is 1,160 Euro (3,63 EUR/lesson); reduced fee: 470 Euro (1,47 EUR/unit) per semester. An additional amount of approx. 20 EUR for material costs (photocopies) may be charged.

Follow up project CHAGAL set up / CHAGAL in Action
The CHAGAL project is based upon the hypothesis that international students enrich European universities. Their knowledge and linguistic richness enable universities to evolve both on a multilingual and an intercultural level. The acronym "CHAGAL" corresponds to the project title Curriculum Guidelines for access programmes into higher education for underrepresented adult learners. The project was coordinated by the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU).
CHAGAL in Action
The follow up project "CHAGAL set up" or "CHAGAL in Action" was carried out at the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML). Supplementary to the CHAGAL Guidelines it provides several examples of good teaching practice:
