Travel or cancellation insurance is not refunded, as it is considered an optional additional service.
-
4. Are rebooking and cancellation fees reimbursed?

-
5. Are memberships such as Wizzair (WIZZ DISCOUNT CLUB) or Ryanair (fare packages) taken into account?
Only the actual ticket prices are considered when calculating travel expenses. Membership fees, even if they provide discounts on ticket prices, cannot be included in the calculation of travel expenses.
-
6. What amount is reimbursed?
The basis for reimbursement is the ticket amount in the currency in which the payment was made. The reimbursement only applies to the ticket price for Economy Class or, in the case of train journeys, for Second Class. If the amount is in a foreign currency, it must be converted to euros (see point 10). Other costs mentioned in points 1 to 5 are excluded from reimbursement.
-
7. Which means of transportation can I use to be eligible for travel expense reimbursement?
You must choose the most cost-effective means of transportation, which, in most cases, is a flight. If you choose to travel by train, you must provide a comparative offer (for the same travel date) showing that the chosen mode of transportation is less expensive than flying.
-
8. Which routes are reimbursed?
The following travel segments are reimbursed:
- Travel to the airport: The cost of the journey to the departure airport is reimbursed, but only for the most reasonably priced means of transportation (train or bus).
- Flight to Austria
- Travel to the study location: The cost of travel from the airport to the study location is reimbursed, but only for the most reasonably priced means of transportation (train or bus).
The same applies to the return journey.
-
9. Does my departure have to be from my home country, or can I depart from another country and still receive travel expense reimbursement?
To qualify for travel reimbursement, both the nationality of the traveler and the departure country must be recognized as developing countries. If either the nationality of the traveler or the departure country is not listed among eligible developing countries, travel costs cannot be reimbursed.
-
10. Is it possible to book flights with layovers, and how long can I stay at the layover destination?
It is possible to book flights with layovers. However, the onward journey to your final destination must take place within 7 days of arrival at the layover destination. Otherwise, the layover location will be considered the point of departure. If this location is not in an eligible developing country, travel costs will not be reimbursed. Please also note that the OeAD does not cover accommodation or other expenses during the layover.
