The EU project "MICS"
The platform was developed as part of the EU project "MICS" (Measuring the Impact of Citizen Science), which ran from January 1, 2019 to July 31, 2022. The aim of the project was to develop a platform with tools that can measure the costs and benefits of citizen science.
The platform
The MICS platform allows citizen science stakeholders and projects to do the following:
- evaluating the impact of a citizen science project using metrics and indicators for different domains,
- comparing the impact of different projects in the same discipline,
- evaluating the impact of a project from conception to implementation and beyond to see how impact changes over time; and
- creating a summary of impact that can be shared with communities, stakeholders, funders, and policymakers.
This means that new citizen science projects can be placed on the platform and evaluated. A "how-to guide" helps with the creation process.
Impact is measured in five areas:
- Economy
- Environment
- Society
- Governance
- Science and technology
