In this video Hasmik Hovakimyan talks about her PhD research, her personal motivation and her plans for the future. Her research is on the participatory approach to curriculum development in higher education in Armenia, using organic farming as an example.

Hasmik Hovakimyan is an APPEAR scholarship holder since 2018. Her PhD studies have been part of the APPEAR funded project , a cooperation of University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) and Armenian National Agrarian University (ANAU), Yerevan. Her studies aim to investigate an approach of participatory curricula development including a bottom-up learning and teaching approach using organic agriculture as the thematic area.

In this video she presents some insights of her research, personal motivation, as well as plans for the future. The scenes of her field studies in Armenia show some of the work behind. Hasmik strongly believes that organic agriculture has a huge potential in Armenia. The BOAA project laid the ground for organic pioneers to join with the University representatives, certification body and ministry officials. Their participation in designing the Master’s program was crucial and made the program unique.

Hasmik Hovakimyan is a doctoral candidate at the Division of Organic Farming at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). Her scholarship is financed by APPEAR, a programme of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC). She graduated from the Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE) in 2010 and has a Master’s degree with an honorary diploma. She has more than seven years of work experience in different state organizations in Armenia, as well as experience in teaching at ASUE.
