The St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences is the EUDRES network coordinator (Engaged and Entrepreneurial European University as Driver for European Smart and Sustainable Regions, E3UDRES2 for short). Forty-three faculties from six European countries with 55,700 students and 7,300 employees are supposed to work together to develop more innovative and more sustainable regions. They should also develop a pilot project for a European University.
The three-year project started in autumn 2020. Improving teaching is generally one of the priorities of EUDRES. The objective is a European university with a European degree as a qualification. In the medium to long term, EUDRES should become a European university where the institutions remain independent but grow together to form a joint campus with several locations spread across Europe. Students should then enrol at a university and study at all institutions involved in the alliance, with a European Degree as a qualification.
One of the tasks of EUDRES is to develop a pilot project for such a European university. The goal is to get far away from the image of the university as an academic ivory tower. This is also reflected in the three subject areas, and the research area that the EUDRES Alliance has set out to do: circular economy, well-being, humane use of artificial intelligence. For this purpose, cross-disciplinary research groups have been set up, which can also submit European research applications together.
In terms of content, EUDRES wants to become a driver for intelligent and sustainable European regions. The FH St. Pölten, the FH Vorarlberg, the FH Management Center Innsbruck, the Universities of Graz and Innsbruck, the Montanuni Leoben as well as the University of Business and Economics and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences are part of a European University.
