26 African and 14 Austrian member institutions are welcome to apply for research cooperation projects which contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We are happy to announce the opening of the first Call of Africa-UniNet, which had to be postponed from July to August because of the limitations due to the global pandemic (COVID-19). We thank you very much for your patience and are already looking forward to a multiplicity of great project applications!

Africa-UniNet supports international research cooperation projects with at least one Austrian and at least one African university / university of applied sciences / research institution. Only active members of Africa-UniNet are eligible to apply. Both the African institution and the Austrian institution may assume the coordination of the project.

The aim of the projects is to promote excellent research and to contribute to the SDGs. They reinforce the formation of the network itself by creating new cooperation and strengthening existing partnerships between Austrian and African universities and research institutions. They strengthen the ties of Africa-UniNet members and put the network on a profound scientific basis.

Within the framework of the project proposals different types of project activities can be submitted:

  • Joint work on research questions
  • Joint development and implementation of research-based teaching and training
  • Joint development and implementation of trainings, workshops, seminars, conferences, alumni meetings
  • Joint work on publications
  • Joint supervision of students

Funding can be provided for mobility costs (travel expenses), monthly scholarships or daily allowances as well as for equipment & material. Projects can be financed for a duration of max. 2 years and with a sum up to a max. of 10.000 euros in case of two partner institutions per year - further 5.000 euros per additional partner institution, with a max. of 6 partner institutions, means a total of maximum 30.000 euros per year.
